Youth Summer Apprenticeship
Talking Drums Youth Summer Apprenticeship provides community children, k-12, with the opportunity to study performing arts with experienced professionals while learning important life skills that will assist them in becoming active members of society. Talking Drums focuses on cultural, social, and self-awareness while teaching students the fundamentals of dance, spoken word, and singing.
Classes
Students will meet at the Tangelo Park YMCA during summer break on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30am to 12:30pm. They will be studying Tap, Cultural, and Lyrical dance. They also will be writing original poetry and learning how to present their work as a dramatic presentation. Finally, they will join voices for the vocal ensemble allowing students to express themselves through music.

Thursday 1 – 2pm Lyrical & Cultural Dance

Thursday 2 - 3pm Vocal Ensemble

Performance
Students will present their hard work to the community through a special performance entitled, Journey: Poetry in Motion, to be presented at the end of the summer program.
Program Fees
There will be a program fee of $50 for the whole summer. $25 is due at the time of registration and the other $25 due by July 1st. The program fees will pay for Tap shoes, wrap skirts, A-line skirts, and headwraps for the girls, plus pants for the boys. Proper attire will consist of black leotards and stocking for girls or black t-shirts and shorts/stretch pants for boys and girls.
